Can you inspire the next generation of energy leaders?
Could you be the next Energy Influencer we’re looking for?
“If you see it, you can be it”. Do you remember what career you dreamed of having as a child? Perhaps it was a professional athlete, inspired by your favourite sport star, or maybe your inspiration came from closer to home – hoping to follow in the footsteps of a parent.
A career role model offers young people real-life insights into the world of work. More than that, they can provide motivation to pursue further education or an alternative pathway to a rewarding future.
With the energy sector changing at a pace we have never seen before, we must encourage new voices with new ideas, accurately reflecting the world we live in and highlighting the exciting career opportunities available for everyone, regardless of background.
My Energy Future (MEF) is a digital platform designed to do just that. Led by safety and skills organisation OPITO, MEF brings to life the world of energy, providing powerful insights from our ‘energy influencers’ on their career journey so far and aspirations for what’s to come. Its overarching goal is to share the stories of passionate people who are working in energy today, to make net zero a reality tomorrow.
It embraces every part of the integrated energy mix, challenging stereotypes and providing its growing community with a diverse range of role models to aspire to.
From Lorna, a Project Engineer for the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre, to Energy Transition Engineer Rodrigo, leveraging his oil and gas experience to develop carbon capture technologies, to Catriona who works across Scotland to help local communities build and benefit from renewable energy projects. My Energy Future is giving young people a ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse into the life of engineers, scientists, managers and technicians working in the energy industry – promoting a diverse range of voices and learning experiences.
If you’re willing to volunteer your time to encourage others to think about the energy sector in a new light, share stories and highlight the relevant subjects and skills young people need to succeed, then you could be the next Energy Influencer we’re looking for.
